If you work in web design or are interested in the industry, you’ll know just how fast trends can change. With designers constantly looking for ways to push the boundaries and create new and exciting user experiences, web design doesn’t stay still for long.
In 2016, we’ve seen many current trends develop, and new trends emerge. With new technologies and innovations hitting the web all the time, these evolving ideas are set to go to the next level. So let’s look at what to expect in the New Year with our predicted web design trends of 2017.
Unique grid use
Grids have long been used in web design to give a site structure. Done well, a grid can make a page easier to navigate and can help to give the site a cleaner aesthetic. In 2017, it’s likely we’ll see a unique grid use. So, instead of using standard squares and right angles, designers will begin to play around with the concept of the grid. We already see more sites layer up their grids and use less linear design, so it’s probable that 2017 will see even more fluid ideas come to the fore.
You may already have noticed a new of these videos appear on your Facebook feed in the last few months and the chances are, you’re only going to see more as the year goes on. These innovative videos let the viewer to look into the screen, allowing them to look around the space as if they were there.
As well as being fun and novel, these immersive videos have an enormous potential in a range of industries. With an enhanced view of interior design, holiday destinations or even a restaurant layout, these 360˚ videos could change the way we see things through the web. And with VR hotting up, this area is going to explode.
Lazy loading allows the viewer to see elements of a site without having to wait for the whole page to load. This is ideal for sites that are content rich as it keeps visitors interested until the full page has appeared. Concepts like lazy loading are becoming more important as more of us use our smartphones to access the web and as our attention spans continue to shrink.
Though parallax has been around for a few years now, we’re predicting it will jump in popularity in 2017. A fantastic way to tell a story, engage viewers, and present content, parallax design is versatile, flexible and very useful.
